VANISHING & REAPPEARING CARD
A playing card is held openly at the fingertips, then without covering it, the card suddenly vanishes and the palm appears completely empty.
A moment later, you reach into the air and make the same card reappear at your fingertips.
THE EFFECT
The audience clearly sees a single playing card held at your fingertips.
With a small movement of the hand, the card instantly disappears. Your fingers are extended and the palm appears empty.
You then reach into the air and make the card appear again just as quickly as it vanished.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
No gimmicks or special cards are required.
THE METHOD
The card never actually leaves your hand.
Your fingers bend the card behind the hand where it remains hidden from spectators looking directly at your palm. This type of concealment is commonly known as a back palm.
The move is very visual, but good angles and relaxed fingers are important.
STEP 1 - DISPLAY THE CARD
Show one playing card clearly to the audience.
Hold the card with your thumb on one face and your two middle fingers on the opposite face.
Keep the grip light and natural.
STEP 2 - POSITION THE MIDDLE FINGERS
Place the two middle fingers firmly against the opposite face of the card.
Your grip needs to be secure enough to control the card, but your hand should still look relaxed.
Tip: Avoid squeezing the card or making the fingers look tense.
STEP 3 - GRIP THE LONG EDGES
Grip the long edges of the card with your first and fourth fingers.
These two fingers will hold the card as it moves behind the hand.
Make sure you have a secure grip before continuing.
STEP 4 - BEND THE CARD BACK
Pull the long edges backward with your first and fourth fingers while the two middle fingers continue pressing against the other side.
This causes the card to bend backward into the position needed for the concealment.
Keep the movement controlled rather than trying to perform it quickly.
STEP 5 - STRAIGHTEN THE MIDDLE FINGERS
Straighten your two middle fingers while maintaining the edge grip with your first and fourth fingers.
As the middle fingers extend, the card moves around and behind the hand.
This is the actual vanish.
Important: Keep the fingers relaxed as they straighten. Stiff fingers can make the move look suspicious.
STEP 6 - SHOW THE HAND EMPTY
The card is now concealed behind the hand.
From directly in front, the audience sees your extended fingers and apparently empty palm.
Angle control is important. Keep spectators in front of you and avoid exposing the side or back of your hand.
Do not hold this position for too long. Let them register that the card is gone, then continue into the reappearance.
STEP 7 - BEGIN THE REAPPEARANCE
Curl the two middle fingers inward again and bring your thumb against the concealed card.
This begins moving the card from behind the hand back toward the fingertips.
Keep the movement smooth so the vanish and reappearance feel like one continuous action.
STEP 8 - PLUCK THE CARD FROM THE AIR
Use your thumb to push the card upward until you can naturally grip it at the fingertips again.
At the same time, make a small reaching or plucking motion as though you are grabbing something from the air.
The card suddenly appears back at your fingertips.
That's it! The card appears to vanish completely and then return from thin air.

WHY THE VANISH WORKS
