COIN THRU CARD
Make a large coin appear to squeeze through a hole that is far too small using nothing more than a cleverly prepared playing card.

THE EFFECT
A playing card is shown with a small hole cut through its centre.
A large coin is displayed beside the hole, making it obvious that the coin is much too big to pass through.
The card is folded around the coin and, with one quick pull, the coin appears to squeeze directly through the tiny opening.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Important: Take care when preparing the card. Younger magicians should have an adult help with the cutting.
THE METHOD
The secret is a hidden slit cut into the playing card.
The audience believes the coin remains trapped between the folded halves of the card. In reality, the coin secretly passes through the slit and moves behind the card.
From the correct angle, the card hides this secret movement completely.
STEP 1 - CUT THE SMALL HOLE
Fold the playing card in half.
Cut a small semicircle from the folded edge. When the card is opened again, this creates a round hole in the centre.
Make sure the hole is clearly smaller than the coin you plan to use.
Tip: The greater the difference between the size of the coin and the hole, the more impossible the penetration will look.
STEP 2 - ADD THE SECRET SLIT
Cut a horizontal slit across the upper section of one half of the card, roughly one centimetre below the edge.
The slit needs to be wide enough for the coin to slide through smoothly.
Keep the cut neat and straight so it is difficult to notice during the performance.
Important: Test the slit before performing. The coin should move through it easily without catching.
STEP 3 - SHOW THE IMPOSSIBLE CHALLENGE
Display the card and coin side by side.
Let the audience clearly see that the coin is much larger than the hole.
This is an important part of the illusion because it establishes that the coin should have no possible way of passing through.
Keep the secret slit facing toward you and do not draw attention to the upper part of the card.
STEP 4 - SECRETLY LOAD THE COIN
Fold the card with the secret slit facing toward you.
Place the coin between the two halves as though you are simply positioning it behind the small central hole.
Secretly slide the coin through the hidden slit so part of the coin emerges behind the card.
Hold the exposed portion securely with your thumb.
Critical Moment: Keep the action natural. It should look like you are simply placing the coin inside the folded card.
STEP 5 - SHOW THE CONVINCER
Briefly angle the top of the folded card toward the audience.
From their viewpoint, the coin appears to be completely trapped inside the centre of the folded card.
Keep the exposed portion of the coin hidden behind your thumb and avoid showing the back of the card.
Tip: Keep this display brief. Give them enough time to understand what they are seeing, but not enough time to study it.
STEP 6 - PULL THE COIN THROUGH
Hold the folded card facing the audience.
Pull the coin downward in one smooth, confident movement while keeping it pressed against the card.
From the audience's angle, the coin appears to stretch through the tiny hole and emerge from the other side.
That's it! A coin that was obviously too large has apparently passed straight through an impossibly small opening.
